Renovation is a process of eliminating all the weeds and grass in your existing lawn, then replacing it with a new variety without tilling, grading, or any of the other tasks involved in installing a new lawn. This is generally the best solution when you don't need to replace the soil, but the grass is in poor condition and cannot be salvaged simply by changing your maintenance practices or following an annual lawn program. We recommend renovating if more than 50% of the lawn has thinned, the lawn was established with a poor quality grass species, or is infested with perennial grass weeds. Here is an illustrated timeline of the process:
These illustrations show a lawn that was sprayed with a non-selective weed control 1 week prior. Before we sprayed the lawn we took several samples of soil and sent them to a soil test lab. This will determine what needs to be incorporated to improve soil conditions when the new lawn is planted.
After the wilted lawn is mowed at the lowest possible setting using a catcher  an aerator is used to loosen up the soil and amend in fertilizer and lime based on the soil test. The prepared area now is ready to be hydroseeded.
These photos show the final step in the process. The prepared area is sprayed with hydroseed which contains everything needed to give you an outstanding new lawn.
We return 4 weeks later to apply the first application of turf building fertilizer. The lawn is now ready to be mowed for the first time.

Why Renovate?

  • More than half of the lawn is weeds.
  • Hard-to-kill perennial weeds such as creeping bentgrass are taking over.
  • Summer drought, insects, or a flood has killed the lawn.
  • You want to convert to a better-looking and better-performing grass.
  • The lawn is more than 10 years old. Older grasses are more
susceptible to diseases and insects than new, improved varieties.

Late Summer
is the best time to renovate your lawn.
